Engine: Service and Repair
Engine and transaxle are removed from vehicle as an assembly.
1. Disconnect battery ground cable located in luggage compartment.
2. Remove air cleaner assembly.
3. Remove lower radiator hose, then drain coolant from engine.
4. Disconnect cooling fan electrical connector.
5. Remove radiator shroud, cooling fan and radiator from vehicle.
6. Remove starter cable from starter.
7. Carefully discharge refrigerant from air conditioning system, if equipped. Disconnect pressure and return lines from compressor.
8. Mark then disconnect all electrical and vacuum lines from engine.
9. Disconnect clutch cable from transaxle shift lever.
10. Disconnect injection pump throttle linkage. Disconnect fuel supply and return lines from engine.
11. Disconnect power steering pressure and return lines from power steering pump, if equipped. Remove power steering line bracket from cylinder head.
12. Install suitable engine support tool to engine lifting eye.
13. Raise and support vehicle.
14. Remove bolt securing exhaust pipe bracket to oil pan. Remove exhaust pipe to exhaust manifold nuts, then disconnect exhaust pipe from exhaust manifold.
15. Disconnect speedometer cable from transaxle.
16. Disconnect heater hoses from heater and oil cooler.
17. Remove bolts securing control arms to body. Remove stabilizer bar bracket bolts and bracket.
18. Remove halfshaft assembly from transaxle.
19. On models equipped with manual transaxle, remove shift stabilizer bar to transaxle bolts. Remove shift shaft nut and bolt from transaxle.
20. Remove lefthand rear No. 4 insulator mount bracket nuts and bracket from body bracket.
21. Remove lefthand front No. 1 insulator to transaxle mounting bolts.
22. Lower vehicle. Do not allow front wheels to touch floor.
23. Remove engine support tool from engine lifting eye.
24. Remove righthand No. 3A insulator intermediate bracket to engine bracket bolts, intermediate bracket to insulator nuts and bottom nut of double ended stud securing intermediate bracket to engine bracket. Remove bracket.
25. Lower engine and transaxle from vehicle.
26. Reverse procedure to install.
