Disassemble
Four Speed Manual Transaxle. Sectional View:
1. Shift transaxle into neutral by inserting a drift pin into input shaft hole and positioning shaft in center detent position.
2. Loosen detent plunger retaining bolt and the detent plunger.
3. Remove reverse idler shaft retaining bolt and the detent plunger retaining screw. Then remove detent spring and detent plunger using a magnet. Identify these parts for proper installation during assembly.
4. Remove shift fork interlock sleeve retaining pin and the clutch housing to transaxle case attaching bolts.
5. Separate case halves by tapping on transaxle case with plastic mallet. Do not pry case halves apart.
6. Remove case magnet.
Reverse Idler Shaft & Gear, Replacement:
7. Remove reverse idler shaft and idler gear by lifting shaft upward.
8. Remove set screw or roll spring pin from shift lever assembly.
Shift Lever Assembly, Replacement:
9. Rotate shaft 90° to disengage reverse inhibitor plunger from detent notch in shift lever shaft. Slide shaft toward differential, then remove shift lever assembly.
Shaft Assemblies, Replacement:
10. Remove main shaft, input cluster shaft and main shift control shaft as an assembly.
11. Remove differential and final drive gear assembly from clutch housing case.
