Exhibit 3 2.3L CFI Engines
2.3L CFI ENGINEHARDSTOP (THROTTLE STOP ADJUSTING SCREW) RPM SETTING PROCEDURE
NOTE: THIS PROCEDURE IS NEW AND REPLACES ALL PRIOR PROCEDURES.
REMINDER: Battery must be disconnected for 5 minutes before proceeding.
Engine "OFF"
^ Remove the air induction tube (flex tube) completely.
^ Locate the tamper resistant cap and remove it.
2. Retract the ISC Motor and adjust the Hardstop Idle Setting.
- In the engine compartment, find the self-test connector and self-test input (STI) connector.
- Connect a jumper wire between self-test input connector and signal return pin on the self-test connector.
HARDSTOP (THROTTLE STOP ADJUSTING SCREW) RPM SETTING PROCEDURE (CONT.)
^ Turn the ignition key to "RUN" position. DO NOT START THE ENGINE.
^ The ISC plunger will retract in 5-15 seconds.
^ Disconnect the ISC motor from the wire harness.
^ Return the ignition key to the "OFF" posftion.
^ Then remove the jumper wire.
^ Turn the engine "ON".
^ Warm up the engine to Normal Operating Temperature for 2-3 minutes.
^ Turn all accessories off, check the hardstop RPM (cooling fan off) in Neutral (MTX) or Drive (ATX) for proper RPMs and TV linkage adjustment (ATX), see chart.
^ If TV linkage, on automatic transmission equipped vehicles, is out of adjustment, adjust using the following procedure before adjusting Hard Stop-Idle.
- Loosen the bolt on the sliding trunnion block, on the TV control rod assembly, one turn minimum.
- Remove any corrosion from the control rod and free-up the trunnion block so that it slides freely on the control rod.
- With trunnion block loosened, rotate the trans-axle control lever up using one finger and a light force, 4.5N (approximately 1 pound), to ensure that the TV control lever is against its internal idle stop. Without relaxing the force on the TV control lever, tighten the bolt on the trunnion block to 9-14 N-m. (7-11 lb.ft.) as shown below.
^ Turn the throttle stop adjusting screw for hardstop adjustment.
^ Turn the engine "OFF".
^ Reconnect the ISC connector.
^ Reconnect the air induction tube (flex tube) completely.
3. Perform the EEC-IV Controlled Idle Learning Procedure
^ Turn the engine "ON".
^ Turn all accessodes "OFF." [With the engine at normal operating temperatures and the transmission in Neutral (MTX) or Ddve (ATX), idle the engine for 2-3 minutes.]
^ Turn the Air Conditioning "ON" (if applicable) and idle the engine for 2-3 minutes.
^ The controlled idle RPM should be within specifications with air conditioning "OFF" (see chart Exhibit 3, Page 2 of 6).
^ Place a small quantity of room temperature vulcanizing (RTV) compound in the idle screw adjusting hole of the throttle body. This space was previously covered by the tamper resistant cap.
NOTE: Idle speeds are controlled by EEC-IV processor and idle speed control motor. If the ISC motor system is operating properly, these speeds are fixed and can not be changed by traditional adjustment techniques.
^ Refer to the Modification Procedure Summary (Attachment I, Page 1).
