A/C - New Push Button/Blower Switch

Article No. 85-10-5

AIR CONDITIONING - NEW A/C PUSH BUTTON/BLOWER SWITCH - SERVICE INFORMATION

FORD 1984-85 ESCORT, TEMPO

LINCOLN-MERCURY 1984-85 LYNX, TOPAZ

LIGHT TRUCK 1984-85 RANGER, BRONCO II

The A/C push button/blower switch on the subject vehicles was changed shortly before Job No. 1 1985 to eliminate the interlock between the two switches. With the new switch, the A/C compressor can be actuated when the blower switch is OFF and, therefore, the A/C push button does not pop out when the blower switch is moved to OFF.

Field reports indicate that A/C push button/blower switches without the interlock are being replaced because the clutch switch does not interlock with the blower switch (does not pop out). In the event customer complaints are encountered regarding this condition, advise the owner that this condition is normal. The switch has been changed in production and no longer has the interlock (pop out) feature.
