Door Speakers - Distorted Sound Quality

Article No. 86-17-5

RADIO - DOOR SPEAKERS - DAMAGE DUE TO WATER ENTRY

FORD 1985-86 ESCORT, TEMPO (THUNDERBIRD With Premium Sound Only)

LINCOLN-MERCURY 1985-86 LYNX, TOPAZ (COUGAR With Premium Sound Only)

Figure 10:

Radio sound distortion and/or a shorted radio door speaker may be caused by water contacting and warping the speaker cone. To correct this, a new design speaker and shield assembly should be installed in each door. When installing the new speaker and shield assembly it must be mounted with the electrical connector pointing downward. This may require drilling three new speaker mounting holes (1/8inch) diameter. See Figure 10.

NOTE: A shorted radio door speaker could cause the premium sound amplifier to short-out.
