An internal fuel leak can be caused by the fuel injector lower O-ring being damaged or incorrectly seated in the throttle body. This may cause the vehicle to run rich resulting in a failed emission test and/or unnecessary replacement of CFI or EEC IV service components.

To correct this, use the following diagnostic/repair procedure.

1. Perform Steps 1 through 4 of TSB 85-14-14 for vacuum bleed down system check.

2. Determine by leak down test that a fuel leak is present. (Fuel pressure must remain at 14.5 +/- 1.5 psi for 60 seconds.)

3. If the fuel pressure does not hold as specified in Step 2, remove injector and replace lower O-ring E53Z-9229-B.

NOTE: Refer to TSB 86-13-15 for proper injector removal and replacement procedure.

4. Verify that the fuel leak has been corrected by repeating Step 2. If the fuel leak has not been corrected, replace the injector and repeat Step 2 to verify the correction.
