Assembly

1. Install differential and final drive gear assembly into clutch housing case.
2. Install 5th gear shaft and fork assemblies.

Positioning Shift Control Shaft Onto Mainshaft Assembly:

3. Position mainshaft control assembly so shift forks engage their respective slots in synchronizer sleeves on main shaft assembly.

Shaft Assemblies, Replacement:

4. Position mainshaft, input cluster shaft and main shift control shaft over their respective bores, then lower into case as an assembly.
5. Install shift lever 3-4 bias spring and 5th/reverse kick down spring. Ensure one shift lever ball is located in the socket of the input shift gate selector plate arm assembly and the other in the socket of the main shift control shaft block.
6. Install spring and ball in the 5th and reverse inhibitor shift lever hole, then slide the shift lever shaft (notch down) through the shift lever.
7. Depress inhibitor ball and spring, using a suitable drift, then tap the shift shaft through the shift lever and 5th/reverse kick down spring into its bore in the clutch housing.
8. Align shift shaft bore with the case bore, then tap roll pin in, slightly below the case mating surface.
9. Install the shift lever cover and cover attaching screws. Torque screws to 1.4-2.2 ft lbs (1.8-2.9 Nm).

Positioning Selector Pin In Control Selector Plate. Typical:

10. Ensure selector pin is positioned in neutral gate of control selector plate and finger of fork selector arm is partially engaged with 1st and 2nd fork an partially engaged with 3rd and 4th fork.

Reverse Idler Shaft & Gear, Replacement:

11. Engage reverse idler gear groove with pin at end of reverse relay lever, then slide shaft through gear and into bore.
12. Install 5th shift relay lever, ensuring it is aligned with 5th gear fork interlock Then insert "C" clip.
13. Install magnet into clutch housing case, then apply suitable sealant to clutch housing mating surface.
14. Install detent spring and plunger. Install transaxle case onto clutch housing case and align shift control shaft, 5th gear shaft, mainshaft and input shaft with their respective bores.
15. Install 15 attaching bolts and torque to 13-17 ft lbs (17-22 Nm).
16. Align bore in reverse idler shaft with retaining screw hole in transmission case, then install retain screw and torque to 16-20 ft lbs (20-27 Nm).
17. Apply suitable sealant to threads of interlock sleeve retaining pin, then install pin into transmission case and torque to 12-15 ft lbs (16-20 Nm).
18. Apply suitable sealant to threads of detent plunger retaining screw and install detent plunger and spring. Torque retaining screw to 9-12 ft lbs (12.2-16.3 Nm).
19. Position transaxle in upright position and install drift through hole in input shift shaft. Shift transmission through all ranges to ensure proper operation.
