Disassembly
1. Shift transaxle into neutral by inserting a drift pin into input shaft hole and positioning shaft in center detent position.2. Loosen detent plunger retaining bolt and the detent plunger.
3. Remove shift fork interlock sleeve retaining pin, drain plug and the clutch housing to transaxle case attaching bolts.
4. Separate case halves by tapping on transaxle case with plastic mallet. Do not pry case halves apart.
Five Speed Manual Transaxle. Sectional View:
5. Remove detent plunger retaining screw. Then remove detent spring and detent plunger using a magnet.
6. Remove case magnet.
7. Remove clip retaining ring from the fifth gear shift relay lever using a small screwdriver, then the fifth gear relay lever.
Reverse Idler Shaft & Gear, Replacement:
8. Remove reverse idler shaft and idler gear by lifting shaft upward.
9. Remove set screw or roll spring pin from shift lever assembly.
10. Using a screwdriver, gently pry on the shift lever shaft so that the shaft hole is exposed. Use caution not to damage main shaft gear teeth or pedestal with screw driver.
11. Insert a punch into shift lever shaft hole and pull shaft straight out using even pressure on both sides of punch. Remove shift lever assembly, 5th/reverse kick down spring and 3-4 bias spring.
12. Remove two screws attaching shift lever cover to shift lever, then the inhibitor ball and spring.
Shaft Assemblies, Replacement:
13. Remove main shaft, input cluster shaft and main shift control shaft as an assembly.
14. Remove differential and final drive gear assembly from clutch housing case.
