WARNING: This modification is authorized only for the listed engines. Performing this modification on other engine calibrations is unauthorized and could create liability under applicable federal or local laws.

Vehicles which exhibit No/Hard Start or Stalls (stalling immediately following restart) after a hot soak may have a fuel vapor-lock condition on the fuel inlet line to the throttle body. The condition is caused by the path that the fuel travels from the fuel supply line through the filter assembly to the throttle body. The fuel system parts involved conduct heat causing the fuel to vaporize. Reworking the fuel supply system using the following procedure should correct the vaporization condition.

1. Disconnect the electrical connector at the inertia switch located on the left side of the trunk.

2. Release fuel system pressure by cranking the engine 15 seconds.

3. Remove and discard fuel hoses between the throttle body/fuel filter and supply line/fuel filter.

4. Remove the fuel filter from the bracket and save the filter.

5. Remove and discard the filter bracket, save the attaching screws.

6. Install the new fuel filter bracket with attaching screws.

Figure 5 - Fuel Filter Installation:

7. Install the fuel filter so that the flow arrow on the filter points downward. Tighten the clamp to 15-25 in.lbs. (See Figure 5.)
8. Connect the new fuel filter outlet hose (formed end) to the bottom end of the fuel filter. Pass the hose through the clip at the shock tower and connect the other end to the throttle body.

9. Connect the new fuel filter inlet hose (straight end) to the top of the filter. Pass the hose through the clip and connect the other formed end to the supply tube.

10. Check connections to insure push connectors are engaged.

11. Reconnect the inertia switch.

In addition to the above, a common ground with the fuel sending unit should be provided for the fuel pump. This will reduce resistance to ground and improve fuel pump performance (pressure and flow to the throttle body).

1. Remove the rear seat cushion.

Figure 6 - Fuel Tank Grommet and Wiring:

2. Pull back the carpet to expose the fuel tank grommet and wiring. (See Figure 6.)
3. Remove the insulation wrapping to expose the four wires in the harness.

4. Remove 1/2 inch of insulation from the "black" wire and the "black with green dot" wire.

5. Solder together the "black" wire and the "black with green dot" wire and insulate with four wraps of ESB-M3G71-A cloth tape.

6. Reinstall wiring harness insulation wrapping, carpet and seat cushion.

7. Start the engine and check for fuel leakage.
