Assembly

1. Install throttle shaft and lever assembly with torsion throttle return spring and bushing in throttle body flange, then install throttle plate and attaching screws snugly but do not tighten.
2. Move shaft back and forth and rotate it to ensure throttle plate does not bind in flange bore.
3. To ensure throttle plate closes tightly in bore, back out closed plate adjusting screw far enough so that it does not contact throttle stop, then reposition plate as necessary.
4. Tighten screws and stake them in plate.
5. Install idle mixture screw and spring, and a new adjustment limiting cup, and setscrew to same number of turns out from the lightly seated position as noted during disassembly.
6. Place new throttle body flange gasket and the main body casting on throttle body flange, then install attaching screws and tighten them evenly.
7. Place drop of suitable locking compound on threads of low speed and main metering rod jets, then, using suitable tool, install low speed jet and main metering rod jet, torquing to 30 inch lbs.
8. Install pump diaphragm in pump diaphragm housing.
9. Position pump diaphragm spring on diaphragm shaft and housing assembly, then install spring shim washers in proper locations and install spring retainer.
10. Install pump lifter link.
11. Install throttle shaft arm and pump connector link, metering rod arm and spring assembly, and upper pump spring on diaphragm shaft, then depress spring and install upper pump spring retainer.
12. Install metering rod on metering arm and place looped end of metering rod arm spring on metering rod.
13. Align pump diaphragm housing, ensuring that holes are aligned, then install housing attaching screws to keep diaphragm and housing aligned.
14. Align pump housing, pump lifter link, metering rod and baffle plate with main body casting, ensuring that vacuum passage in diaphragm housing is aligned with vacuum passage in main body.
15. Install assembly in main body casting, being sure to engage pump lifter link with lifter link seal and main body, and to insert metering rod in main jet.
16. Install pump housing screws snug but do not tighten.
17. Install pump transfer tube.
18. Push down on diaphragm shaft to compress diaphragm, then tighten attaching screws.
19. Adjust metering rod as described under ``On-Vehicle Adjustments.''
20. On Feedback models, position the temperature compensated pump bleed valve and washer and install valve retaining screw, then install new welch plug by seating it with 1/4 inch flat drift punch, if equipped.
21. On all models, install fast idle cam and shoulder screw.
22. Install throttle shaft arm and pump connector link on throttle shaft and pump connector link, then tighten lock screw.
23. Install ``E'' clip, vent rod actuating lever, spring washer, operating lever and retaining screw at end of throttle shaft and tighten retaining screw.
24. Install choke shaft assembly in air horn.
25. Position choke plate on choke shaft and install screws snug, check choke plate to ensure it is not binding and torque screws to 4 - 9 inch lbs.
26. Install choke link lever and tighten attaching screw.
27. Install needle seat and gasket in air horn, then invert air horn and install needle, pin spring, needle pin, float and lever assembly, and float pin.
28. Adjust float level as described under ``On-Vehicle Adjustments.''
29. Align bowl vent flapper valve with vent rod, ensuring that spring is properly installed on vent rod shaft, then install spring retainer.
30. Place pump check ball and weight in main body castings.
31. On non-Feedback models, proceed as follows:
a. Position new gasket on air horn and install air horn assembly and sol-vac or solenoid bracket on main body, then install attaching screws, torquing to 27 - 37 inch lbs. When installing air horn assembly on main body, ensure mechanical fuel bowl vent rod is engaged with forked actuating lever.
b. Install choke housing gasket, locking and index plate, notched choke cap gasket, thermostatic coil housing, retaining ring, and rivets and screw. Ensure thermostatic spring engages choke lever tang and is not stopped by a retaining tab on locking and indexing plate.
c. Install retainers and housing screws.
d. Install air cleaner bracket and the fast idle link.
e. Install solevac or solenoid kicker, if equipped.
f. Complete assembly of non-Feedback models by installing WOT A/C switch.
32. On Feedback models, position new air horn gasket on air horn assembly.
33. Install air horn assembly on main body, and the solevac, and torque attaching screws to 27 - 37 inch lbs. When installing air horn assembly onto main body, ensure mechanical fuel bowl is engaged with forked actuating lever.
34. Install thermostatic coil housing, gasket locking and indexing plate and gasket, ensuring that thermostatic spring engages choke lever tang and is not stopped by a retaining tab on the locking and indexing plate.
35. Install two new rivets and the screw.
36. Install fast idle link.
37. Engage choke pulldown link with choke shaft lever and the pulldown diaphragm rod.
38. Position diaphragm bracket on air horn and install attaching screws.
39. Connect pulldown vacuum hose from throttle body vacuum connector to the diaphragm housing.
40. Install feedback solenoid gasket and two screws.
41. On 1983 Feedback models, install WOT A/C cut-out switch, if equipped.
42. On1984 - 86 Feedback models, proceed as follows:
a. Position idle speed control motor and bracket assembly on main body.
b. Apply one drop of suitable locking compound to threads of idle speed control motor retaining screws, then install screws and torque to 60 inch lbs.
c. Install throttle control bracket retaining nut, torquing to 30 inch lbs.
d. Position throttle position sensor driver, backing plate and throttle position sensor on throttle body flange.
e. Apply one drop of suitable locking compound to threads of throttle position sensor retaining screws, then install screws and torque to 11 - 16 inch lbs.
