1. Disconnect battery ground cable, then drain cooling system and crankcase.
2. On models equipped with underhood light, disconnect electrical connector from the light.
3. Mark position of hood hinges, then remove hood.
4. Remove air cleaner, air inlet duct and heat tube.
5. Remove fan shroud and fan assembly, then loosen accessory drive belt idler and remove drive belt and water pump pulley.
6. Disconnect upper and lower radiator hoses at radiator.
7. Disconnect Thermactor hose at air tube check valve, then remove air tube valve bracket attaching bolt at rear of righthand cylinder head.
8. Remove secondary wire from ignition coil.
9. Remove bolts attaching power steering pump mounting bracket, then remove pump and bracket assembly and position aside with hoses attached, if equipped.
10. On models with A/C, remove compressor mounting bracket attaching bolts, then remove compressor and mounting bracket assembly and secure to righthand shock absorber tower with refrigerant lines attached.
11. Remove alternator and position aside.
12. Disconnect heater hoses from water pump and heater tube.
13. On models equipped with speed control, disconnect cable at carburetor or fuel charging assembly.
14. Disconnect all necessary vacuum hoses and wiring connectors.
15. Remove engine ground strap to dash panel attaching screw.
16. Disconnect transmission downshift linkage and throttle cable from carburetor, or fuel charging assembly, then remove throttle cable bracket attaching bolts.
17. Disconnect fuel line and PCV valve hose from carburetor, or flexible fuel lines from steel lines over the rocker arm cover, on models equipped with fuel injection.
18. Remove carburetor assembly from intake manifold. On models equipped with 7200 VV two barrel carburetor, remove spark knock intensity sensor and adapter assembly which is located between carburetor and thermostat housing.
19. With EGR spacer and phenolic gasket in position, install engine lifting plate T75T-6000-A or equivalent over carburetor mounting studs, then install nuts.
20. Raise vehicle and disconnect fuel inlet hose from fuel pump. Cap fuel hose to prevent entry of dirt.
21. Remove inspection cover from torque converter housing, then remove nuts attaching flex plate to torque converter.
22. Remove starter motor.
23. Remove transmission cooler line retaining clips, then disconnect exhaust pipe from exhaust manifold.
24. Remove four lower engine to transmission attaching bolts.
25. Remove engine mount to crossmember attaching nuts or bolts.
26. Lower vehicle and position a suitable transmission jack under transmission. Raise jack just enough to support weight of transmission.
27. Remove two upper engine to transmission attaching bolts, then place a 1/4 inch piece of plywood or other suitable material between engine and radiator to prevent damage to radiator.
28. Carefully raise engine slightly, then pull away transmission and lift from vehicle.
