ISSUE: A new "tee"-type service adapter tool (D87P-19703-A) is available to aid technicians in diagnosing air conditioning system concerns. The adapter tool has two 1/4 inch flare fittings with Schrader valves for attachment of a pressure switch and the low pressure hose of a manifold gauge set.

ACTION: When using the new "tee"-type service adapter tool (D87P-19703-A), a pressure switch must be connected to the top fitting and the manifold gauge set low pressure hose attached to the side fitting of the adapter. Remove the pressure switch from the suction accumulator, attach the adapter to the accumulator pressure switch fitting and connect the pressure switch electrical connector to the pressure switch on the adapter, Figure 1. The system can then be operated under normal conditions with pressure switch control and the true evaporator pressure can be observed. This gives a more accurate reading than at a suction service port located in the suction line or at the compressor.

NOTE: This adapter tool can also be used to service vehicles produced without suction ports, refer to TSB Article No. 86-3-8.

One "tee"-type adapter tool will be sent free of charge to each dealer in the 50 states and Canada. The service instructions for using the "tee"-type adapter is included inside the tool kit. Additional "tee"-type adapters can be purchased from Owatonna Tool Company.
