ISSUE: A slip during a 1-2 upshift or bump during a 2-3 downshift may be caused by intermediate clutch and direct clutch friction material that is not compatible with the automatic transmission fluid. The intermediate clutch and direct clutch friction plates that are not compatible with the approved fluids are the "RAYBESTOS" and "RAYMARK". These components can be identified by the manufacturers names stamped on one side of the friction plate material and the letter "R" stamped on the friction plate internal spline teeth.

ACTION: If service is required, use the "BORG-WARNER" intermediate clutch friction plate, (EOAZ-7B164-D) and "BORG-WARNER" direct clutch friction plate, (EOAZ-7B164-C). These components can be identified by the stampings "BORG-WARNER" and "BW".

NOTE: Transmission overhaul kits EOAZ-7C391-A and E4AZ-7C391-A may contain the "RAYBESTOS" or "RAYMARK" intermediate and direct clutch friction plates. If they are found, throw them away and order the "BORGWARNER" clutch friction plates.
