Front Door Hinge Roller - Breakage

Broken door hinge rollers on vehicles built prior to November 6, 1985, can be serviced by replacing just the hinge pin and roller using the following procedure.

Lower Door Hinge Roller Removal (Refer to Figure 1)
1. Disconnect battery.
2. Open the door and support it in full open position.
3. Cut upper and lower door hinge pins in half and remove from vehicle.
NOTE: The following two methods of breaking the hinge pins are recommended:
a. Use 5/16" dia. high speed bit with a 500 rpm drill motor. Prick punch hinge pin and start drilling slowly until the head portion of hinge pin is removed.
b. Use a 2" dia. or less Norton Cutting Wheel, part number 24TBNA, available locally at wholesale distributors and hardwares.
4. Separate the door hinge halves by moving the door away from the body sufficiently to gain access to the lower hinge roller. This will not require disconnection of door wiring harness, if so equipped.
5. Using 3/16" dia. drift punch, tap out lower hinge roller pin (23566) and broken roller from door lower hinge half.
6. Install new roller (E2FZ-5823519-A) and pin (E2FZ-5823566-A) into lower door hinge half.
7. Move door so that the upper and lower door hinge halves are aligned.
8. Install the upper door hinge pin from the bottom of the hinge as indicated in Figure 1.
9. Install lower door hinge pin, retention clip at bottom of hinge.
10. Use touch-up body color paint, as necessary, on hinge pins and retention pins.
11. Open and close door to assure proper function.
