Removal and Installation
1. Raise and support vehicle.2. Mark driveshaft for assembly reference, then disconnect driveshaft from rear U-joint flange. Slide driveshaft from transmission output shaft, then install an extension housing seal installation tool into extension housing opening to prevent lubricant spillage.
3. Remove 4 catalytic converter attaching bolts and the converter with inlet pipe.
4. Remove rear transmission support attaching bolts.
5. Support engine and transmission using a suitable jack, then remove crossmember attaching bolts. Raise engine slightly and remove crossmember.
6. Lower transmission to gain access to 2 shift handle attaching bolts, then remove the bolts and shift handle.
7. Disconnect back-up light electrical connector, then the top gear and neutral sensing switch electrical connectors, if equipped.
8. Remove speedometer cable retainer bolt, then the speedometer driven gear from transmission.
9. Remove transmission-to-flywheel attaching bolts.
10. Move transmission rearward until input shaft clears flywheel housing, then lower transmission from vehicle. It may be necessary to lower engine slightly to provide clearance for transmission removal.
NOTE: Do not depress clutch pedal while transmission is removed from vehicle.
11. Reverse procedure to install.
