Frame - Underbody Clunk On Acceleration/Braking

FORD 1985-86 THUNDERBIRD

LINCOLN-MERCURY 1985-86 COUGAR

An underbody clunk may be heard or felt at the floor pan area on acceleration or braking. This clunk may be caused by the front suspension attachment rod being
loose and can be serviced by following the procedure below:

1. Remove two bolts holding the attachment rod as shown in Figure 14.

2. Wire brush the bolt threads.

3. Reinstall the attachment rod with bolts and torque to 75 ft.lbs. (100 N-m).
