ISSUE: A harsh 1-2 shift on vehicles with AOD transmissions built between September and December, 1985 may be caused by the 1-2 accumulator spring. The transmissions are model PKA-CB with build dates of J, K, L, or M indicated on the transmission tag. See Figure 34.
ACTION: To correct this, install a new design 1-2 accumulator spring (E6SZ-7F284- A) using the procedure listed below.
1. Perform throttle valve ("TV") pressure adjustment using 1986 Car Shop Manual, Section 17-20-4 and TSB 82-2-16 (revised TV pressure to 33 PSI).
NOTE: Continue with this procedure only if Step 1 does not correct the harsh 1-2 shift.
2. Remove the valve body as outlined in the Car Shop Manual, Section 17-20 and remove the 1-2 accumulator shift valve and spring as shown in Figure 34.
3. Replace the orange spring with a new yellow 1-2 accumulator shift valve spring (E6SZ- 7F284-A).
4. Install the 1-2 accumulator shift valve and valve body.
