Installation of the converter hub seal (E3FZ-7F401-A) required application of a sealant around the outer diameter and flange of the seal as described in TSB 85-20-5 dated October 10, 1985. A new improved converter hub seal (E6FZ-7F401-A) is now available for the subject vehicles that will no longer require dealer application of a sealant. This new seal supersedes the previous design and has its outer diameter coated with a factory applied red sealant which will distinguish it from the old seal that is colored gray.

The new seal (E6FZ-7F401-A) is now available as a single item and is being phased into seal kit production. Therefore, whenever using an overhaul kit (E2FZ- 7C391-B), or a seal kit (E2FZ-7153-B), from dealer stock, it is recommended that the gray converter hub seal provided in the kit should be discarded and replaced with the new red converter hub seal (E6FZ- 7F401-A) until all kits have been updated.
