TECHNICAL INSTRUCTIONS FOR EMISSIONS RECALL 89E81
REPLACING CRANKCASE VENTING SYSTEM COMPONENTS AND REMOVING A VACUUM DELAY VALVE
1. Remove the air cleaner assembly.
2. Locate and remove and discard the two-way vacuum delay valve in the choke pull-down vacuum line.
FIGURE 1:
3. Refer to Figure 1. Remove the anti-stall dashpot mounting bracket and vacuum hose from carburetor by removing the mounting screws on the carburetor mounting flange facing toward the instrument panel.
FIGURE 2:
4. Refer to Figure 2. Remove the crankcase vent hose assembly from air cleaner connector and intake manifold vacuum fitting.
5. Remove remaining vacuum hoses from the intake manifold vacuum fitting.
6. Remove and replace the existing intake manifold fitting with the fitting in the kit.
NOTE: Break off 1/4" diameter vacuum port from the existing intake manifold fining to allow removal without interference with or damage to the coolant bypass hose. Torque the new fitting to 7-12 ft.lbs. Maintain the original part alignment for purge valve and main vacuum system.
NOTE: Use sealer on fitting threads.
FIGURE 3:
7. Refer to Figure 3. Remove and discard the hoses in the crankcase vent system from the intake manifold fitting to HIC valve and from crankcase vent valve (sometimes called the "PCV") to air cleaner (including the vent valve).
NOTE: Retain the HIC valve and the attached short hose.
FIGURE 4:
8. Refer to Figure 4. Replace the hoses and valves discarded in Step # 7 with the new hose and valve assemblies provided in kit. Reconnect crankcase vent hose assembly to the 1/4" port at end of intake manifold fitting and to the air cleaner. Trim the 1/4" hose to air cleaner if required.
9. Reconnect all vacuum hoses to the intake manifold fitting.
10. Reinstall anti-stall dashpot mounting bracket and check dashpot specification clearance. (Refer to Vehicle Emission Control Information [VECI] decal).
11. Replace the delay valve removed in Step # 2 with a straight vacuum line connector provided in kit.
12. Reinstall air cleaner to carburetor.

ADJUST THE DISTRIBUTOR VACUUM ADVANCE
(Read the following Instructions completely before proceeding).
1. Refer to Figure 5. Remove 5/32" vacuum line from vacuum advance mechanism.
2. Insert the long end of a conventional "L" shaped 1/8" allen wrench into the vacuum opening of the exposed nipple.
3. Gently turn the allen wrench until it engages the internal hex inside the part throttle advance mechanism.
4. Note the position of the short end of the allen wrench relative to the body of the part throttle advance mechanism and mark this position on the body for use in Step 5.
5. Using the mark established in Step 4, turn the allen wrench four complete turns in the counterclockwise direction.
6. Remove allen wrench.
7. Reinstall 5/32" vacuum hose.
