SUBJECT: Emissions Recall 9OE88 - Exhaust System Catalyst Replacement on Certain 1986-Model 49-State 3.8L Engine Equipped Passenger Cars.

AFFECTED VEHICLES All 1986-Model 49-States Thunderbird/Cougar,
Mustang/Capri and LTD/Marquis cars having 3.8L engines
with calibration code 6-16B-RO2. The affected cars
were manufactured at the Chicago, Dearborn, and Lorain

Assembly Plants during the 1986-model year.

REASONS FOR RECALL The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has conducted
in-use vehicle emission tests and has determined that the vehicles may be releasing levels of hydrocarbons and carbon monoxide exhaust emissions which exceed standards.

SERVICE ACTION Cars returned for service will have no-charge replacement
of the exhaust system catalyst and Y-pipe assemblies.
