Owner Notification Program M56 - Heater Inlet and Engine Bypass Hoses
REASONS FOR THIS PROGRAM
Analysis of hoses on the affected vehicles has indicated that some of the hoses may not be able to withstand higher than anticipated engine operating temperatures and might fracture. Fracture of a hose and associated loss of coolant could result in engine overheating followed by possible engine damage.
VEHICLES AFFECTED
Vehicles involved in the program were produced within the indicated production dates at all producing assembly plants:
CARES/OASIS
Use CARES or OASIS to verify that vehicles are affected by this program.
PROGRAM PROVISIONS
Owners of vehicles affected by this program will be notified to return their vehicles for a no-charge replacement of the following hoses:
^ Passenger cars equipped with 3.0L engines will have two heater inlet hoses replaced.
^ Passenger cars equipped with 3.8L engines will have a heater inlet hose and a water bypass hose replaced.
^ Aerostars will have one heater inlet hose replaced.
PROGRAM LIMITATIONS
Heater hose replacement provided by this program will be available during the base vehicle warranty coverage (12-months from the in-service date or 12,000 miles of service, whichever comes first) or through July, 1988, whichever provides greater coverage. Engine damage as a result of this condition is also covered as well as refunds for owner-paid hose replacements and engine damage made prior to this announcement. Refund requests must be made by July 31, 1988. Service Zone representatives must approve requests for engine damage coverage.

Technical and administrative instructions are provided in this bulletin. Owners of involved vehicles will be sent the letter shown in this bulletin.

Contact your Service Zone Manager prior to service for approval to correct engine damage as a result of the conditions described by this program.
