Low Coolant Indicator Light - Comes ON

^ LAMP - LOW COOLANT INDICATOR COMES ON

MERKUR: 1985-89 XR4Ti 1988-89 SCORPIO


ISSUE: The low coolant indicator lamp may come on with the coolant level above the minimum level. This may be caused by a low coolant sensor that is overly sensitive.

ACTION: Install a new low coolant sensor which has tighter specification limits. Refer to the following service procedure.

Removal

1. Release any pressure in cooling system by placing a cloth over coolant fill cap and slowly turn cap.

2. Drain or siphon coolant from reservoir.

3. Disconnect the low coolant sensor and spacer ring, Figure 1.

4. Unscrew low coolant sensor retaining ring from reservoir.

5. Remove low coolant sensor and seal ring.

Installation

1. Make sure that the grommet is fully seated in reservoir.

2. Insert low coolant sensor into reservoir grommet. Hand press until it is completely seated, Figure 1.

3. Screw retainer ring onto reservoir.

NOTE: KEEP SEAL RING POSITIONED IN RETAINER RING WHEN STARTING IT ONTO RESERVOIR.

4. Connect electrical connector.

5. Refill reservoir to proper level.
