WIPER - REAR - CYCLES WITH SWITCH OFF

The rear wiper on some 1985-86 Merkur XR4Ti vehicles built prior to January 16, 1986, may cycle a single stroke at various intervals when driving with the wiper switch in the "off" position. This concern usually occurs when underhood temperatures are high and the brake lights or turn signals are activated. This concern can be serviced by replacing the bright orange relay in the fuse box. The new Service Part Number is E5RY-17C499-C. It should be noted that the rear wiper operates only on an intermittent mode except when the "on" switch is held down in the washer position.
