DOOR - FUEL FILLER - LATCH INOPERATIVE

LINCOLN-MERCURY: 1986-88 SABLE
ISSUE: An inoperative or hard to operate fuel filler door may be caused by a fuel filler door latch cable that binds.
ACTION: Install a new latch assembly that includes a cable coated with nylon to resist binding. Refer to the following procedure for service details.
1. Remove the existing latch assembly and throw it away. Refer to the appropriate Taurus/Sable Shop Manual for service details.
2. Install the new latch assembly.
3. Make sure the latch assembly operates correctly by pulling the fuel filler door latch handle.
4. Make sure to operate the manual override handle inside trunk to confirm it operates property, before and after installing the trim panels.
5. Reinstall the interior trim. Refer to the appropriate Taurus/Sable Shop Manual for service details.
