Safety Recall 87S36 - Certain 1986-1988 Passenger Cars and Certain 1985-1987 Light Trucks for Installation of Fuel Line Retainer Clips

Dear Owner:

This notice is sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act. Ford Motor Company has determined that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in certain 1986, 1987 and 1988 passenger cars and certain 1985, 1986, 1987 light trucks.

Safety Defect Your vehicle is equipped with fuel line couplings that
are intended to lock together. These couplings may not have been fully connected at initial assembly at the factory or following engine maintenance or repair. A partially connected fuel coupling may unlock or separate during vehicle operation, creating a risk of a vehicle fire.

If a fuel coupling separates, the engine may stop running and the operator could notice a fuel odor.

Repairs At no cost to you, your dealer will install retainer
clips on the fuel line couplings of your vehicle. Dealers have been sent installation instructions and an initial supply of parts.

How Long Will The time needed to repair your vehicle is less than one

You Need To Call your dealer without delay and ask for a service
date. When you bring your vehicle in, give the dealer the enclosed form.

If you misplace the form, your dealer will still do the work, free of charge.

Please fill out Section 1 of the enclosed prepaid postcard and mail it to us, if you have changed your address or sold the vehicle.
If the dealer does not make the repair promptly and without charge, please mail Section 3 of the prepaid postcard to us.
