- LOW STATE OF BATTERY CHARGE - VEHICLES WITHOUT HEATED WINDSHIELD

FORD 1986 TAURUS

LINCOLN-MERCURY 1986 SABLE

Vehicles with a 70 amp alternator and a 58 AH (amphour) battery may exhibit poor charging during hot weather. A no-start condition can occur during hot weather city driving with the A/C and high speed blower motor in use. An 84 AH battery (BX-65) should be installed using the following diagnostic procedure.

1. Check the electrical system for loose battery connections, battery draw with key off, or alternator malfunctioning. Refer to Section 31-01-1 of the Taurus/Sable Shop Manual and service as required.

2. Replace 58 AH battery (Motorcraft part number BX58C) with 84 AH battery (Motorcraft service part number BX-65).

3. On 2.5L vehicles, check idle speed by using procedure shown in Shop Manual, Volume H, page 4-24. Perform setting procedure as required.
