LAMP - HEADLAMP - LOW BEAM DOES NOT APPEAR TO LIGHT UP ROAD ENOUGH

FORD: 1986-87 TAURUS

LINCOLN-MERCURY: 1986-87 SABLE

ISSUE: Headlamps that do not appear to light up the road enough while on the low beam may be caused by the illumination pattern produced by the lens optics. The aero headlamp lens design directs light in a somewhat different pattern than the old style sealed beam headlamps. Even though the new light pattern conforms to federal standards, some customers may find the pattern undesirable because they have been conditioned by the old style sealed beam headlamp.

ACTION: To correct this, check the headlamp system using the following service procedure. If the customer is still not satisfied, new design headlamp assemblies which have a revised low beam pattern are now available.

1. Make sure the headlamps are properly aligned. If not, adjust as required.

2. Make sure the voltage at the headlamp bulb connector is at least 12 volts. If not, service as required.

3. If the condition still exists after performing Steps 1 and 2, install two (2) new design headlamp assemblies. Refer to the Taurus/Sable Shop Manual, Section 32-02 for detailed service procedures.
