Electric Mirror - Top Finish Panel Loose/Falling Off

The top finish panel on some electric outside rear view mirrors may be loose and in some cases could fall off. The mirror (cover) finish panel retaining fingers on the front of the finish panel may become damaged or broken if the finish panel is not properly positioned on the mirror before being snapped in place. To correct this concern (loose panel or panel falls off and is damaged or lost), use the following procedure.
Finish Panel (Loose)
1. Remove finish panel from mirror assembly.

2. Apply D6AZ-19562-A adhesive to mirror housing as shown in Figure 2.
3. Reinstall finish panel and apply several pieces of masking tape to hold in place for 24 hours. (Customers can remove tape at their convenience.)
Finish Panel (Damaged or Lost)
1. Obtain new finish panel (base part numbers 17D- 742 - R.H., 17D743 - L.H.) and paint to match vehicle.
2. Carefully install the new finish panel, making sure the retaining fingers line up with the retaining hole in the mirror housing before snapping into place.
