This notice is sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the Motor Vehicle Safety Act of Canada.

Ford Motor Company of Canada, Limited (Ford) has determined that a condition which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in certain 1986-1988 2.9 L Ranger/Bronco II and 1986-1989 3.0 L Taurus and Sable vehicles in specific areas of Canada where there are extremely corrosive conditions. Our records indicate that you own the 19xx (vehicle) with the serial number shown above your name and address on this letter.

Reason For Recall
The throttle could remain in an open position, after the driver releases the accelerator pedal, due to linkage binding resulting from severe corrosion. If this condition should occur, the engine would continue to run at a faster-than-idle speed. This could potentially affect the driver's control of the vehicle and possibly result in a vehicle crash.

Repairs
In August 1990 Ford informed you of the above concern and offered a temporary service procedure that would be effective for at least 12 months. Ford also advised you that when a permanent modification became available you would again be notified. This letter is to advise you that Ford's permanent modification is now available and should be performed on your vehicle.

At no charge to you, your dealer will install a new design secondary throttle lever and associated mounting parts on the throttle body assembly of your vehicle.

How Long Will It Take?
The time needed to repair your vehicle is less than one hour. However, due to service scheduling times, your dealer may need your vehicle for a full day.

Call Your Dealer
Call your dealer without delay and ask for a service date. Also ask your dealer to check the CARES/OASIS system for any other recalls that may not have been completed on your vehicle. If parts are not in stock, they can be ordered before scheduling your service date. Parts would be expected to arrive within a week.

If you have leased this vehicle to another person or organization, please immediately notify the lessee of this recall.

When you bring your vehicle in, show the dealer this letter. If you lose the letter, your dealer will still do the work, free of charge.

Refunds
If you paid to have the throttle body control lever lubricated or the throttle body assembly replaced due only to the corrosion condition before the date of this letter, Ford will refund you the cost that you incurred for the parts and labor.

For a refund, please give the original copy of your paid repair order or parts purchase receipt to any Ford or Mercury dealership. The dealership will arrange to refund you the repair costs that you incurred.

Changed Name, Address, Or Sold The Vehicle?
If you have changed your name or address, or have sold the vehicle, please fill out the enclosed prepaid postcard. Sign and date it, and mail the card to Ford.

If you cannot get the recall service performed, contact the "National Owner Relations Office" or the nearest Ford of Canada Regional Office. The addresses and telephone numbers for these offices are shown in your vehicle's Owner Guide. Your Ford or Lincoln Mercury dealer can also give you this information. Please identify your vehicle's serial number in any correspondence.

We regret the inconvenience this service may cause you, but we want you to have the work done for your safety and satisfaction with your vehicle.
