HARD START - WARM ENGINE (HOT SOAK) - 3.0L EFI - VEHICLES BUILT JOB NO. 1 TO MARCH 20,1986
FORD 1986 TAURUS
ILNCOLN-MERCURY 1986 SABLE
Hard starting with a warm engine after a short shutdown may be caused by low fuel pressure. This may be caused by installation of the wrong fuel pump/sender assembly. The following diagnostic procedure should be used to verify that the correct fuel pump has been installed.
1. Remove the air cleaner.
2. Disconnect fuel pressure regulator vacuum line.
3. Attach Fuel Pressure Gauge, T80L-9974-A, or equivalent, to the diagnostic valve on the fuel rail assembly.
4. Start engine and check fuel pressure reading at idle.
If the fuel pressure is low (less than 35 psi), drop the tank and determine if the correct pump/sender has been installed by part number identification. If the number is not legible, remove the pump/sender assembly and check the physical characteristics:
