Figure 3:
Exhaust system popping/pinging noise after engine shutdown can be reduced by installing a new resonator and inlet pipe, part number E6DZ-5A289-B. Use the following procedure and Figure 3.
1. Remove the two bolts holding the resonator and pipe assembly to the converter.
2. Remove exhaust gasket, part number E6DZ- 5E241-A. Inspect and if not damaged, reuse.
3. Loosen U-bolt holding resonator to muffler assembly. Heat pipe if required to aid in removal of resonator assembly.
4. With resonator assembly free of vehicle, remove bolt retainers and discard. All other bolts, springs and nuts are reusable if not damaged.
5. Install new resonator assembly using either new or undamaged exhaust gasket. The spring loaded bolts holding the exhaust gasket to converter are to be tightened to 28-45 N-m (21-33 ft.lbs.). U-bolt nuts should be tightened to 34-47 N-m (25-35 ft. lbs.).
6. Start vehicle and inspect for any exhaust leaks prior to delivery to customer.
