EXTERIOR TRIM-FRONT DOOR - WINDOW MOULDING SEPARATES FROM DOOR

Separation of the front door window moulding from the door is caused by inadequate bonding and can be serviced by replacing the moulding assembly with an improved design using the following procedure:

1. Lower door window all the way down.

2. Remove the plastic rearview mirror mounting hole cover (1 screw) from the front inside beltline area of the door.

3. Remove and save the adhesive backed tape covering the mirror mounting access holes in the door inner panel.

NOTE: These two holes will allow end wrench access to the three nuts retaining the mirror. It is not necessary to remove the door trim panel.

4. Using an end wrench, remove the nuts (3) retaining the mirror to the door. Carefully pull the mirror away from the door as far as the slack in the wiring assembly will allow.

5. Remove the screw at the front end of the moulding assembly (previously covered by the mirror).

NOTE: An offset screwdriver may be required.

6. Using metal shears (tinsnips), cut through the retainer as shown on Figure 1. Bend one cut side of the metal up and the other cut side down enough to allow the wiring assembly to slip through metal opening and remove the moulding assembly from the door.

7. Cut and bend the new moulding assembly in the same way and slide it into place on the door.

8. Install the screw that retains the front part of the moulding tight against the door outer panel.

9. Position the mirror and install the three retaining nuts. Tighten to approximately the same torque as was required for removal (specification is 2.8-4.5 N-m).

10. Install the watershield tape and the inside mounting hole cover screw.
