Silicone grease is applied to the distributor rotor tip to achieve compliance with Canadian regulations concerning radio frequency interference (RFI).

Noise (static) heard on AM/FM or AM/FM/Cassette radios may be caused by this silicone grease.

Figure 11:

The diagnostic procedure, in Figure 11, should be used to identify the grease as the cause of the static.
