This article is being republished in its entirety to update the model year application and revise Section II, Step 3 and the related figure.
ISSUE: If noise concerns such as clunk, rattle, clash, or rumble are encountered on Taurus/Sable vehicles, the following guide may be used to aid in locating and correcting the concerns.
Some noises may occur that are not suspension related. These noises may be caused by the following and should be inspected and corrected as required.
^ Exhaust system ground-out.
^ Loose spare tire.
^ Exhaust heat shields on underbody loose.
^ Parking cable strikes underbody.
ACTION: After the above have been corrected, if necessary, and the noises have not been eliminated, the following procedures should be used.
Road test to determine if the noise is coming from the front or rear of the vehicle and then use the following sections for the required procedures:
Section I - Front Suspension - Sedan and Station Wagon
Section II - Rear Suspension - Sedan Section III - Rear Suspension - Station Wagon
