Section II

Figure 13:

1. Raise vehicle on hoist and check rear suspension fasteners and torque to the proper specifications as required. (See Figure 13)

Figure 14:

2. Check for rear wheel bearing end play. Grasp the tire at the top and bottom and rock. If any looseness is felt, adjust the adjusting nut as shown in Figure 14. Looseness could also be a bad bearing.

Figure 15:

3. Inspect both rear springs to see if dampers, sleeves and clips are installed and positioned correctly. See Figure 15 and note that upper damper should be held tightly against lower damper by clip. This position is needed to hold dampers in place so that they cannot slap or rattle against spring. If they are not installed correctly, do so as outlined in Figure 15. If they are installed correctly, the noise may be caused by a loose shock strut rod. (See Step 7)

4. Remove both rear shock struts, upper mounts and springs from vehicle.

5. Remove springs from shock strut assemblies.

6. Use Figure 15 for installation of dampers, sleeves and clips.

Figure 15:

NOTE: Some vehicles may have some dampers, sleeves or clips installed. For these vehicles, install and position the required parts to make the spring look like Figure 15. See Figure 16 (Page 11) to identify which sleeves and dampers should be used for subject vehicle.

Figure 17:

7. Check the shock strut for a loose rod. (See Figure 17.) If the rod is loose, replace the shock strut.

8. Assemble shock strut, spring and upper mount assemblies.

9. Install assemblies into vehicle.

10. Install wheel and tire assemblies and lower vehicle.

Figure 18:

11. Install sound absorber on shock tower, Figure 18, if not on vehicle.
