Windshield Washer - Washer Nozzle Aimed Too Low

Article No 86-17-8

WIPER/WASHER-WASHER AIM TOO LOW FORD 1986 TAURUS

LINCOLN-MERCURY 1986 SABLE

Windshield washer nozzles that spray too low on the windshield can be corrected by installing tape shims under the washer nozzles using the following procedure.

1. Remove the wiper arm and blade assembly by applying downward pressure on the wiper arm head while holding arm head. Lift the arm to the highest position. Using finger pressure only, grasp the slide latch tab and slide the latch out from under the arm head. Remove the arm and blade assembly.

CAUTION: To prevent glass and/or paint damage, do not pry the arm pivot with metal or a sharp tool.

2. Remove the cowl vent screen and washer nozzles.

3. Cut one piece of 3M Scotchfoam Tape, part number 06375-4508, to 1/2 inch length and apply to the bottom of the washer nozzle. See Figure 12.

NOTE: A second piece of 3M Scotchfoam tape may be required to ensure proper adjustment. No more than two pieces should be used to correct the washer aim.

4. Reinstall washer nozzles, cowl vent screen and wiper arms.
