ISSUE: Inoperative turn signals, inoperative heated backlite or vehicles that run rich may be caused by the heated exhaust gas oxygen (HEGO) sensor wiring chafing against the air conditioning compressor or pinching between the air conditioning compressor and support bracket. The damaged HEGO wiring results in a blown #5 fuse.

ACTION: To correct this, install a piece of protective convolute tubing and install a new #5 fuse using the following diagnostic service procedure.

Figure 1 - Article 87-11-1:

1. Locate the wire for the HEGO sensor at the front of the engine, Figure 1.

NOTE: If wires have convolute tubing completely covering them and are not pinched between the air conditioning compressor and support bracket, further inspection is not required. Perform normal diagnostic procedure.

2. If damaged wires are found, repair as required.

3. Install convolute tubing (D4SZ-14A099-F) on HEGO wiring, butting one end against HEGO connector and wrap both ends with electrical tape, Figure 1.

4. Replace the blown #5 fuse (D9ZZ-14526-D).

5. Check turn signals and heated backlite for proper operation.
