TRANSAXLE - ATX - LOW SPEED SHUDDER AND BOOM IN THIRD GEAR

ISSUE: A low speed shudder and boom while driving in third gear may be caused by shift point variances in the 2-3 upshift and 3-2 downshift pattern.
ACTION: To correct this, install a new design main control service kit that revises the part throttle 2-3 upshift and 3-2 downshift pattern. Refer to the following service procedure.
1. Obtain main control service kit, (E6FZ-7A230-A).

2. Replace the 3-2 control valve bore plug and retainer with a 3-2 downshift valve, spring and flat plate retainer. Refer to Steps 1 and 2 of Figure 5 and Section 17-25 of the 1986 Car Shop Manual, Volume E.
3. Replace the 2-3 spring with a two-spring "Nested" assembly from the kit. Refer to Step 3 of Figure 5.
