FORD 1986 TEMPO

LINCOLN-MERCURY 1986 TOPAZ

A popping or creaking noise coming from the right hand "A" pillar area during braking and acceleration on uneven roads may be corrected by using the following service procedure:

1. Remove the interior garnish moulding (Section 45- 16-1 of the 1986 Tempo/Topaz Shop Manual).

2. Remove the instrument panel to gain access to the welds in the "A" pillar area (Section 45-61-1 of the 1986 Tempo/Topaz Shop Manual).

3. Pull the right hand, front door weatherstrip off the "A" pillar attachment flange to expose the three welds, Figure 9.

4. Drill out the three spot welds through two thicknesses of sheet metal with a spot weld remover from the interior of the vehicle, Figure 9.

5. Puddle weld each of the three prepared areas and paint the repaired spots with the appropriate color after the repair.

NOTE: Puddle welding is not included in the reimbursement allowance. District Office approval is required for actual time.

6. Reposition the right hand, front door weatherstrip to the "A" pillar attachment flange.

7. Install the instrument panel (Section 45-61-1 of the 1986 Tempo/Topaz Shop Manual).

8. lnstall the interior garnish moulding (Section 45- 16-1 of the 1986 Tempo/Topaz Shop Manual).
