TO: Selected North American Ford and Lincoln-Mercury Dealers and Affiliated Ford Motor Companies
SUBJECT: Safety Recall 88S42 - Incorrect Auxiliary Rear Seat Belt Retractor Installation
VEHICLES AFFECTED
All 1987-1988 Ford Crown Victoria and Mercury Grand Marquis eight passenger station wagons equipped with optional auxiliary rear seats that were produced at the St. Thomas Assembly Plant from the start of 1987-model production through October 30, 1987.
REASON FOR THIS RECALL
The seat belt assembly for the auxiliary rear seat on the right side of the vehicle may not have been installed correctly. An improperly installed seat belt may cause the belt webbing to be pinched between the seat cushion and seat back. As a result, the belt may fit too loosely or may retract slowly.
To correct this condition, the affected seat belt on the subject vehicles is to be inspected and, if necessary, installed properly.
