Starter Motor: Service and Repair
STARTER PROBLEMS: If the starter is noisy or if it locks up, before condemning the starter, loosen the three mounting bolts enough to hand fit the starter properly into the pilot plate.. Then tighten the mounting bolts, starting with the top bolt.
1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Raise and support vehicle.
3. Disconnect starter cable from motor.
4. Remove mounting bolts and starter. On some models it may be necessary to turn the wheels right or left to remove starter.
5. Reverse procedure to install. Torque bolts to 15---20 ft. lbs.
