1. Examine the right-hand side of the auxiliary rear seat to determine if the seat belt assembly has been installed correctly (Refer to Figure 9, page 41-50-6 of the 1988 Car Shop Manual, Volume A shown below). If the retractor on the right side of the vehicle is installed in the forward location, both the retractor and buckle must be removed and their positions reversed.

2. Remove the right side auxiliary seat cushion to gain access to the seat belt bolts. Remove both bolts.

3. Install the retractor in the rearward anchorage and the buckle end in the forward anchorage. Hand start the bolts and tighten to 30-43 N-m (22-32 ft.lbs.). In the event the threads are stripped, retap to 1/2" and replace the old bolt with a 1/2" - 13 X 1.38 pan head locking bolt, Ford Part No. 383531-S36.

4. Replace the seat cushion. Check the function of the seat belt retractor.
