12A581 WIRE HARNESS CHAFING 87-11-16
FORD: 1987 ESCORT, EXP
LINCOLN-MERCURY: 1987 LYNX
ISSUE: Hard start, no start, or lack of power may be caused by the wires (12A581 wire harness) for the air charge temperature sensor and fuel injector chafing on the flange of the rocker cover and grounding out.
ACTION: To correct this, repair and secure the damaged wires using the following service procedure.
Figure 15 - Article 87-11-16:
1. Locate wires for air charge temperature sensor and fuel injector, near throttle body at back of engine, Figure 15.
2. If wires are damaged, repair and tape as necessary.
NOTE: If wires are not damaged, perform normal diagnostic procedures to identify driveability concerns. However, Step 3 should be performed to prevent future chafing of the wires.
3. After repairing the damaged wires, install convolute tubing (D4SZ-14A099-F) on both wires, butting one end against connector and wrap both ends with electrical tape. Check routing of wire harness (12A581), making sure it is properly seated, Figure 15.
4. Check vehicle for proper operation.
