LAMP - HIGH MOUNT BRAKELAMP - MOISTURE OR DIRT ON INSIDE OF LENS

FORD: 1986-88 ESCORT, EXP

LINCOLN-MERCURY: 1986-87 LYNX

ISSUE: Moisture or dirt on the inside of the high mount brakelamp may be caused by inadequate sealing of the lens to the lamp body. The lens has a thin wall thickness which may have allowed it to bow when assembled.

ACTION: To correct this, seal the high mount brakelamp lens with Ford clear silicone RTV sealer. Refer to the following service procedure.

1. Remove the two (2) screws holding the high mount brakelamp lens to the lamp body. Remove the lens.

2. Clean off and throw away the gasket material from lamp body and lens.

FIGURE 1:

3. Apply a 1/8" bead of Ford clear silicone RTV, (D6AZ-19562-AA) around the lamp body. Allow the RTV to set up before installing lens.

NOTE: Make sure there is a 1/8" gap in the silicone bead where it lines up with the notch in the lens at the bottom of the lamp body to allow for water drainage, Figure 1.

4. Reinstall the high mount brakelamp lens to the lamp body with the two (2) retaining screws.

5. Make sure the drain notch is clear.
