DAMAGED WIRES AT KEYLESS ENTRY PAD 87-12-5

ISSUE: An inoperative keyless entry system may be caused by the individual wires at the keyless entry pad becoming damaged during window operation. The damage is caused by the sharp edges on the rivet that holds the door glass to the glass bracket.
ACTION: To correct this, repair the damaged wires and wrap the wires with electrical tape as close to the keyless entry pad as possible. Refer to the following service procedure.
1. Remove the door trim panel and water shield per the 1987 Taurus/Sable Shop Manual, Section 45-03.

2. Remove the three (3) wire harness locators from the door inner panel, Figure 22. Disconnect the wire connector and remove the keyless entry pad and wire assembly.
3. Repair damaged wires and tape as required.
4. Tape wrap the loose wires with electrical tape, starting at the existing tape wrap and working up as close to the keyless entry pad as possible, Figure 22.
5. Install keyless entry pad and wire assembly making sure the wire harness is kept as close to the door outer panel as possible, and that all harness locators are installed to the door inner panel.
6. Install water shield and trim panel.
