ISSUE: Cosmetic surface rust on exposed underbody components may be caused by prolonged vehicle storage. The cosmetic rust does not affect vehicle performance, however, it may be undesirable for new vehicles displayed in the dealership "showroom".

ACTION: If service is required, apply Super Seal undercoating material to the underbody of the vehicle. Refer to the following service procedure.

NOTE: District approval is necessary prior to performing this procedure to make sure of proper warranty reimbursement.

1. Steam clean the complete chassis.

2. Cover and tape the following areas to make sure Super Seal is not applied to them.

a. MacPherson strut and shock absorber rods.

NOTE: Failure to completely mask off the strut rod and seal area can result in premature wear of the components.

b. Driveshaft and slip yoke at transmission including extension housing seal.

c. Front brake caliper, rotor and splash shield.

d. Parking brake cables (only the exposed cable not the conduit).

NOTE: Whenever a parking brake cable enters a cable housing, the cable must be taped about three (3) inches from the end of the conduit and the conduit end must also be taped.
