Factory fill of SAE 5W-30 engine oil started with the introduction of 1984 model Escort/Lynx and EXP vehicles equipped with the 1.6L and now with the 1.9L engine. Tempo/Topaz vehicles equipped with the 2.3L HSC engine were introduced with SAE 5W-30 oil starting Job 1, 1985. SAE 5W-30 oil will also be factory fill for 2.5L and 3.0L engines used in Taurus/Sable vehicles, and the 3.0L engine in Aerostar.

The benefits offered by using SAE 5W-30 oil are:
improved cold ambient starting, reduced internal engine friction and improved fuel economy (especially during extreme low ambient temperatures).

In these engines, SAE 5W-30 oil is the recommended viscosity for operating conditions up to 100~F (38~C) ambient temperature. In addition to selecting the proper viscosity grade (Figure 13), it is very important that the oil meets other minimum performance requirements. The Company recommends that Motorcraft oil or an equivalent oil that meets Ford Specification ESEM2C153-C and API (American Petroleum Institute) categories SF or SF/CC or SF/CD, be used in gasoline engine powered vehicles.

To insure continued customer satisfaction, the selected engine oil should meet the above performance requirements and recommended viscosity grade. Motorcraft Super Premium gas-saving SAE 5W-30 oil (XO-5W30- QSP) is formulated to exceed these performance characteristics.
