ISSUE: Early 1987 Taurus/Sable vehicles were built with the front suspension shown in "Combination A", Figure 5. The bearing plate did NOT have a rubber insulator, but the spring had a polyurethane sleeve on the upper end. Current production uses "Combination B", Figure 5. The bearing plate has a rubber insulator, but the spring does not have a polyurethane sleeve on the upper end. Since only a small quantity of vehicles were built with "Combination A", no service parts will be stocked with this combination.
ACTION: If a bearing plate replacement is required in an early 1987 Taurus/Sable with spring and bearing plate "Combination A", it must be changed to a "Combination B" arrangement. To do this, remove the polyurethane sleeve from the upper end of the original spring and install the new service bearing plate with the rubber insulator as shown in "Combination B", Figure 5.
