ISSUE: An inoperative fuel gauge after the instrument cluster printed circuit has been replaced may be caused by the lack of an anti-slosh module. Printed circuits produced after 10/01/86 have a hole punched through the circuit board to accept the anti-slosh module. If an anti-slosh module is not used when the new instrument cluster printed circuit is installed, the fuel gauge circuit will be left open.
ACTION: If service is required, always make sure that an anti-slosh module exists when a new instrument cluster printed circuit is installed. If an anti-slosh module is not present, install one at this time. Refer to the following service procedure.
1. Remove the instrument cluster. Refer to Taurus/Sable Shop Manual, Section 33-01 for service details.
2. Remove the old instrument cluster printed circuit.
3. Install a new instrument cluster printed circuit.

4. Install the appropriate anti-slosh module. Refer to Figures 2 through 5 for installation location.
NOTE: THE ATTACHING SCREW FOR THE ANTI-SLOSH MODULE IS PACKAGED WITH THE MODULE.
5. Install the electrical flex connector to the back of the instrument cluster and cycle the ignition key several times to make sure the fuel gauge is operating correctly.
6. Install instrument cluster.
