The liftgate ajar warning lamp may not come on when the liftgate latch is in the secondary position. This may be caused by the upper plate of the latch being too close to the actuating bolt in the switch mounting area. To correct this, rework the latch using the following procedure.
1. Open the liftgate and turn the ignition key to the "On" position.
Figure 1:
2. Looking at the liftgate latch, depress the right hand actuating bolt one (1) click from the open to the secondary position, Figure 1.
3. If the warning lamp is off, obtain a 1/2 inch or 3/8 inch blade screwdriver and place it inside the liftgate latch near the switch mounting area, Figure 1.
4. Twist the screwdriver counterclockwise to lift the upper plate of the latch until contact between the switch and the actuating bolt is eliminated. When this is done the warning lamp should go on.
5. Release the latch with the key and check the function to see if the warning lamp is on in the open and secondary position, and off in the closed position.
